Wroclaw Region and the Teacher Training SIG : Successful Strategies for Teaching Specialist Vocabulary Workshop Report

by Anna Gałucka
Categories: Teacher Training SIG.

On January 21st, 2017, the Wroclaw Region and the Teacher Training SIG jointly organized a 4-hour event entitled Successful Strategies for Teaching Specialist Vocabulary. The speaker was Magdalena Kondro, a lecturer of English at the Foreign Language Department of Wrocław University of Science and Technology, an IATEFL Poland conference presenter and, above all, an inspiring teacher herself. The workshop gathered 28 participants from Wroclaw, Legnica, Jelenia Góra, Głogów and Nysa. The event constituted an opportunity to take an active part in a series of vocabulary-based exercises, all of which have proved themselves in various types of courses. The workshop was devoted to techniques of helping students to learn and revise specialist vocabulary (CLIL, academic, technical and other ESP), to personalising academic and technical vocabulary and to spicing up classes with speaking tasks that include specialist vocabulary.
