Routine - a retro-tool or a remedy?
Anna Witańska
Summary
I would like to offer a talk about teaching children through routines. As teachers, don't we quite often jump from a teachnique to a tool, trying to make our classes entertaining and exciting for the students. Our student population has changed, dramatically, over the past few years. Students struggle to pay attention for longer periods of time and learning may look bleak when compared to glamour of the virtual reality. I would love to focus on the importance of consistency and repetition in the primary classroom, as tools for effective learning, as well as a step towards creating a safe learning environment.
Biodata
My name is Anna Witańska, currently I am a deputy head and the English Programme Coordinator in Autorska Szkoła Podstawowa Saltando in Wrocław. Our school aims at bilingualism, hence our teaching is CLIL-based, following the British curriculum in the subjects of English, Maths and Science, adjusted to the ability of our mostly Polish students. I used to work in the British International School of Wrocław, where I was also a Primary Head who coordinated the curriculum, its implementation and school events. I am a graduate of the English Philology of the Jagiellonian University (teaching and linguistics). I also completed postgraduate studies at the Unesco Chamber in Kraków in the field of consecutive and simultaneous translation. I am vegan and madly in love with chickens.
