Using comics in English language teaching
Piotr KosiĆski
Summary
Standing at the crossroads between images and words, comics make for a great tool in learning. They can be used to improve students' literacy, help them understand both simple and more complex grammatical concepts, expand their vocabulary, and increase their creativity. Thanks to the enormous number of styles and genres that comics provide, teachers can easily find material suitable for their students' age, language level and interests. In my presentation, I will briefly discuss the uniqueness of comics as a medium and will show how it can be put into use in a language classroom. The presentation will include sample tasks and activities that teachers do with the use of comics as well as recommendations on which comics can be useful for English language teaching.
