There's more to it than just carolling... The somewhat forgotten art of teaching English through songs

Bogna Kowalczyk

Summary

As a learner of a foreign language, have you ever been motivated by a song? Ever craved to understand what your favourite warbler is trying to convey? How did that feel? Have you been able to transfer that experience to your classroom? I'm going to prove it's still worth using song lyrics as teaching material. From the obvious listening skills practice, through ideas for vocabulary and grammar tasks, as well as those concerning history and culture - you'll be equipped with practical ideas for your next class and hopefully also convinced that the teacher can have fun in the classroom too!
