Cognitive Pitfalls in Standardised Language Assessment
Hristiyana Slavova
Summary
This experimental research examines talk-in-interaction within institutional communicative settings such as standardised speaking exams, highlighting the cognitive strain of producing truthful responses despite varied prompts. It reveals that truthful responses demand more cognitive effort compared to untruthful ones, challenging traditional assumptions. The study underscores the complex interplay between external prompts and internal decision-making, offering valuable insights for enhancing language proficiency assessments.
