Teaching through the tears: pedagogy in a time of war

Hugh Dellar

Summary

Like many teachers, I pivoted to teaching online during lockdown and for a couple of years taught functioning multi-national classes. Russia's brutal full-scale invasion of Ukraine put paid to all that and in the three years since the start of the full-scale war, I've had to adapt both my classroom practices and ,your school policy to take into account the new reality we now find ourselves in. Like many teachers, I pivoted to teaching online during lockdown and for a couple of years taught functioning multi-national classes. Russia's brutal full-scale invasion of Ukraine put paid to all that and in the three years since the start of the full-scale war, I've had to adapt both my classroom practices and our school policy to take into account the new reality we now find ourselves in. In this raw and personal session, I unpack some of the principles that have come to guide my practice and look at how the personal is also always political.
