Raising students' awareness of responsible AI use in EAP contexts.

Charlotte Abraham

Summary

This talk presents a pilot project on how Economics students employ AI tools in their written assessments at a German university. These students, participants in academic skills courses, were encouraged to present familiar AI tools, discuss ethical and responsible AI use when working on their graded assignments, identify the implications of employing AI tools for their assessment, and to evaluate the results of an AI generated essay compared to a human written essay. This presentation analyses the findings and aims to stimulate discussion on how AI should be seen as a helpful tool for academic writing, rather than a hindrance.
