Rethinking Inclusion in English Lessons: Making Space for Gifted Learners
Małgorzata Tetiurka
Summary
Inclusive education aims to meet the needs of all learners, yet gifted students are often overlooked—both in policy and in everyday classroom practice. Their advanced abilities can lead to disengagement if not adequately recognised and supported. This session explores how English teachers can create inclusive classrooms that also challenge and nurture gifted learners. We will examine the specific needs of high-ability students, common barriers they face, and practical strategies for differentiation and enrichment. Through a blend of research insights, real-life examples, and hands-on activities, participants will leave with ideas and tools to help every learner thrive.
