Beyond the Test: Rethinking Summative Assessment

Anna Przybyło

Summary

Summative assessment doesn’t have to mean a written test—and it shouldn’t, if we want students to stay engaged in meaningful learning. In this session, we’ll explore how summative tasks can serve as authentic, creative “final trials,” where students apply their knowledge and skills in real-world contexts. Participants will learn about a variety of assessment formats that go beyond traditional exams and will gain access to sample tasks, student work, and planning templates. This workshop invites teachers to rethink summative assessment as a powerful learning experience, not just a final checkpoint.
