Essay assessment is broken. Can AI fix it?
Małgorzata Szubartowska
Summary
Essay assessment is one of the most time-consuming and emotionally demanding parts of teaching - and often one of the least consistent. This session will explore why grading essays is so challenging, drawing on research, classroom experience, and teacher/student surveys to examine the effects of bias, fatigue, writing anxiety, and exam rubrics. I’ll also share how these challenges led me, as a teacher, to develop SKRIBU - Poland's first AI tool designed for grading Matura-style writing - and how it helps teachers save time and better support student progress.
