Under Construction: Building Grammar and Vocabulary from the Ground Up
Małgorzata Kobierzycka
Summary
How can we help teenage and adult learners build lasting grammar and vocabulary knowledge? In this practical session, we’ll explore the metaphor of house-building to rethink how we structure language learning. Using research-informed strategies—particularly retrieval practice—we’ll look at ways to lay solid foundations, scaffold learning effectively, and ensure long-term retention. You’ll leave with adaptable, classroom-ready ideas for both grammar and vocabulary that engage learners and promote deeper understanding. Whether you're working with teens or adults, this session will offer a toolkit for constructing language knowledge that stands the test of time.
