Hand your students umbrellas! Future-proofing competences in the ELT classroom

Ola Marchwian

Summary

What if your language lesson could offer more than vocabulary and grammar? In this talk, we’ll explore how to integrate global citizenship, ecolinguistic awareness, social-emotional learning, critical thinking, and multiple literacies into everyday teaching – using simple but powerful tools like images, questions, and thinking routines. In a world of unpredictable weather – socially, emotionally and ecologically – students need more than language: they need resilience and reflection. You’ll leave with ready-to-use ideas and a renewed sense of purpose as you help learners face the future with confidence and umbrellas for the rainy day!
