Literature Assessment Practices in the EFL Tertiary Classroom in Ukraine

Olha Drahinda

Summary

The use of literature in foreign language classroom has been well-grounded. However, the challenges of the contemporary ELT classroom coupled with the acknowledgment of the importance of imaginative and artistic uses of language - reiterated in the illustrative rating scales for assessing creative texts (including literature) in the 2020 CEFR Companion Volume of 2020 - require the reconsideration of the role of literature in the foreign language teaching, as well as the ways to present literature and assess it. This talk provides examples of the variety of tasks employed in literature assessment, as demonstrated through local Ukrainian practices.
