The place of intonation in ELT
Georgi Dimitrov
Summary
The topic of my talk is the place of intonation in ELT. This is not a new topic but it is my conviction that intonation has its place in the ELT classroom. It is interesting to note how we react to intonation but we seldom make the effort to consciously pay attention to the intonation with which we say something. Therefore, I lead the discussion towards production exercises where students could be asked to apply certain intonation patterns as much as possible. Perception exercises are not left out completely though it is assumed that access to them is way easier.
