Multilingual Minds: Helping Our Students Thrive

Anna Fedorenko

Summary

In today’s diverse classrooms, multilingual students are more common than ever. But too often, teachers aren’t sure how to support them In this presentation, we’ll rethink multilingualism: not as a barrier, but as a boost. We’ll explore how speaking multiple languages shapes the brain, builds metacognitive skills, and opens doors to deeper learning across subjects. You’ll walk away with strategies for making your classroom more inclusive, more responsive - and more exciting for multilingual learners. From using translanguaging to building confidence in all their languages, you will go away with the tools, insights, and a new mindset.
