Developing Didactic Competencies Among English Language Primary School Teachers in Poland: Insights from Experienced Educators

Inga Smoleń

Summary

This study explores the development of didactic competencies among English language teachers in Poland, particularly those working with young learners through CLIL, EMI, and immersion methods. A survey of 149 experienced teachers revealed key factors influencing early-career growth. Positive influences included professional development courses, collaboration with colleagues, and classroom observation. However, significant challenges were identified, such as inadequate mentorship, limited teaching materials, and insufficient practical training at the university level. The findings emphasize the need for structured mentoring and targeted professional development, including workshops, webinars, and international exchanges, to support novice teachers and enhance their didactic effectiveness in early education setting
