Just like me! Near-peers as role models and content creators

Ben Goldstein Cambridge University Press & Assessment

Summary

Research suggests that “near peers”, people whose experiences and narratives are similar to the learner’s own, can represent more realistic, empathic and motivating role models than native speakers. This workshop features “near-peer” content from a range of contexts and related strategies and techniques for improving learner motivation and success. We will also see how peer learning can lead to a stronger sense of community among teachers. Participants will come away with plenty of food for thought about “peer power” and its positive impact both in and outside the language classroom.
