Summary:
This session aims to explore the challenges related to managing those teenagers who tend to be “problem cases”. The challenge for teachers is not to be unfair to them; to inspire(?) and to maintain their engagement and keep them cooperative during the lesson.
During the session we will explore the social, psychological and physiological reasons why teenagers may become so hard to approach. We will analyse the role of demotivation and the part that reaction formation plays. Finally, we will be led to discuss how teachers can establish common ground and work with these young people, even on a one-to-one basis.
