Sad news: Maria Birkenmajer died on the 7th July 2021

The  deeply saddening news has reached us that Maria Birkenmajer died on the 7th July 2021. She was the second President of IATEFL Poland and the former Board Member.  Maria was very much involved in the activities of IATEFL Poland and shaped it in its early years. Maria was the person of great personal culture , making everybody feel welcome at the organisation and making sure their voice was heard. She was a great teacher and author of many  books working for a long time at the Institute of English Philology of Warsaw University.  We would like to offer our sincere condolences to Maria’s family. She will be greatly missed.

Maria was the epitome of a dignified person, cultural, knowledgeable, courteous, and supportive. In just a few minutes, she inspired me about Scotland, which she knew well. A popular, warm person, well-loved by all who had contact with her. May she rest in peace.
