“Teaching 21st Century Skills in ESP Classroom through Debates”

Summary:

Using debates in the classroom provide students the opportunity to work in a collaborative and cooperative group setting. By having students discuss and organize their points of view for one side of an argument they are able to discover new information and put knowledge into action. The informal method of debate allows teachers to use debate to enrich class discussions, personalize SLA and at the same time boost creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking.

Hence, presented talk will highlight the importance, challenges, and best practices of teaching debates as productive skills in ESP Classroom. It will highlight best debate techniques used at the example of Business and Legal English Classes in tertiary education.
