The 2nd Inter-University Competition for a Presentation in English Related to the Field of Study.- Report
On 18 May 2024, Foreign Languages Teaching and Certification Centre of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin hosted the final stage of the 2nd Inter-University Competition for a presentation in English related to the field studied. The competition was organised by the Foreign Languages Teaching and Certification Centre, University of Life Sciences in Lublin and co-organised by IATEFL Poland. The objective of the competition was to promote the learning of English among students of Lublin universities and to enhance their language skills, with particular emphasis on specialist vocabulary related to the field of study of the competition participants. Students of natural sciences and engineering had the opportunity to compete in two categories:
- first- cycle and second-cycle studies
- long-cycle studies
An intercollegiate jury chaired by Witold Piech from the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, consisting of Tomasz Trautman, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University and Dariusz Kożuch, University of Life Sciences in Lublin, evaluated the students’ statements based on the following criteria:
- content,
- language skills,
- communication skills,
- pronunciation.
In the first category the winners were:
1st place – Maja Kucharska, Animal Behaviour, University of Life Sciences in Lublin
2nd place – Michał Nowosadzki, Geoinformatics, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University
3rd place – Jakub Jagusiński, Biotechnology, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University
In the second category the awardees were:
1st place – Natalia Misiewicz, Occupational Health and Safety, University of Life Sciences in Lublin
2nd place – Dawid Soroka, Spatial Management, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University
3rd place – Katarzyna Komar, Animal Behaviour, University of Life Sciences in Lublin
The announcement of the results and the award ceremony was attended by dr hab. Urszula Kosior-Korzecka, associate professor, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education, who presented the finalists with diplomas of recognition and the award for the best student of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, which went to Maja Kucharska.
The prizes in the competition were: a one-year English language course funded by National Geographic Learning and an LTE exam funded by the international certification organisation LanguageCert. The sponsors of the other prizes were: MM Publications, Oxford University Press and the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education of ULS in Lublin. The competition was held under the Honorary Patronage of the Marshall of Lubelskie Voivodship Jarosław Stawiarski, the Rector of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Kowalczyk and the Association of University Language Centres SERMO.
