Grading vs. Ungrading
which will take place on
Monday, 15th March 2021, between 20:30 and 21:30 CET.
During this pandemic period, many educators have raised questions about the purpose of education, including reflecting on core aspects such as instruction and assessment. In this webinar, we’ll review some issues related to grading and the ethical questions raised by grading students during a pandemic.
| We’ll discuss the Ungrading movement, a trend of questioning the value of letter grades, review the new book, Ungrading, edited by Susan D. Blum, and look at a few websites and resources by educators who are examining their grading practices. We’ll talk about alternatives to traditional grading, such as Peter Elbow’s contract grading, and participants will be encouraged to share their experiences with grading and experiments in ungrading. |

Willow Barnosky
Willow Barnosky is an educator and writer based in San Jose, California. She is the Virtual English Language Fellow at the University of Opole for 2020–2021 and was the English Language Fellow at the University of Rzeszów for 2019-2020. She has experience as an ESL and EFL instructor, professional developer, and curriculum designer in Adult Education, university, and language institute contexts in the United States, Japan, South Korea, and Poland. She received her MA in TESOL and a Specialization in Teaching Spanish from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California, and a BA in Spanish and Latin American Studies from the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania.
