Mum and Dad stay at home!

Michał Gwardyś

Can teaching in primary school be effective without over-including parents in the process? After all it is the students we should be teaching, not their parents. Can formative assessment be helpful in building self-confidence and self-motivation within the students? And do mums and dads really have to know absolutely everything about your lessons?

I have been teaching English for 15 years, both in pre-school and in primary school. I tend to think of myself as a guide, a partner in my students' quest for knowledge. Each such journey begins with building a relation - a process which I view as key in successful teaching of any subject. I hold a post of an English and a form teacher at the Szkoła Podstawowa nr 2 Przymierza Rodzin im. ks. Jana Twardowskiego in Warsaw. I also help students to prepare for the Education Board English Language Contest.
