New routes to fluency: phrasebooks, coursebooks and teaching Spoken English. – a webinar by Hugh Dellar

21 kwietnia, 2026 Anna Rogalewicz Gałucka

Fluency in spoken English is often understood as grammatical accuracy or vocabulary range, yet real-world communication depends just as much on formulaic language, chunks, and interactional patterns. This talk explores new routes to developing fluency through the use of phrasebooks, coursebooks, and focused teaching of Spoken English. It looks at how learners can move beyond individual words and rules to acquire ready-made language for real communicative situations, and how teachers can exploit existing materials more effectively to support this process. Practical examples and classroom implications will be discussed, with a focus on helping learners sound more natural, confident, and fluent in everyday speech.
