Sustainable writing B2-C2 – a webinar by Maria-Araxi Sachpazian

Dear Colleagues,

IATEFL Poland and Maria-Araxi Sachpazian, Managing Director of Input on Education

have the pleasure to invite you to the webinar

Sustainable writing B2-C2

Summary:

Writing is a complex productive task which makes demands on the students’ multiple cognitive skills as it combines reading and understanding the topic and finding relevant ideas with self-expression and crafting meaningful paragraphs/texts. Writing asks learners to put all language available to good use so it is particularly challenging for weak learners who may resort to google translate. Firstly, one important issue is for students to understand what the topic asks them to discuss and realise the growing degree of sophistication required in their output. It is true that students often fail to grasp these, or they produce texts which are superficial and lack in-depth discussion. It is also important that learners learn to understand the level of formality and the style of the text to be produced. Finally, relevant ideas have to be found which should be expressed in paragraphs that are well constructed so that the text overall features flow. Sadly, learners must do all that in 30-45 minutes when they take exams. These are all reasons that can push learners to give up and not submit their writing, which means that they do get feedback, or it might make them resort to cheating or enlisting external help. In this session, we will discuss how we can streamline the process of teaching writing for levels B2-C2 and thread it with speaking and writing so that by the end of the lesson learners are well-equipped to produce the text and manage to do the same under exam pressure after repeated exposure to the same process.

After the webinar all participants will receive a link to certificate of participation.
